Dioctyl terephthalate - Introduction
dioctyl terephthalate (abbreviated as DOP) is a colorless transparent liquid with low volatility and low solubility. It is a high temperature stable lubricant soluble in organic solvents.
The main use of DOP is as a plastic additive, especially in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It can improve the plasticity and flexibility of PVC, making it easy to process into various shapes of products. In addition, DOP is used in industries such as cables, synthetic leather, rubber and coatings as plasticizers and plasticizers.
The preparation of DOP is usually synthesized by the esterification reaction of octanol and terephthalic acid. This reaction is typically carried out in the presence of an acidic catalyst such as sulfuric acid.
Regarding safety information, DOP is relatively safe in regular use cases. However, DOP may burn when exposed to high temperatures, open flames, or substances with a low open flame point. Therefore, when handling and storing DOP, avoid contact with fire sources and maintain good ventilation conditions. At the same time, avoid direct contact and inhalation of DOP, so as not to cause irritation or allergic reactions.
